Critical Psychology: Rooting for Well Being

An Integral approach to health and well-being attends to an "all- quadrant" perspective, acknowledging the interdependence of personal, social, cultural, and biological domains. In this workshop, we review how these dimensions can work together to enhance growth and healing, and how to effect change by adding a larger philosophical and ethical context. Through an active engagement in Ken Wilber's Integral model, participants are guided to identify areas in their lives where a more comprehensive view may enable a greater understanding of personal evolution, given the cultural and global contexts; professional applications are considered. In addition to the didactic presentations, participants are invited into a series of learning modalities that include reflective observation, conceptual exploration, Socratic dialogue, and large and small group experiential exercises.

Learning outcomes: At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees will be:

1. Conversant in the parameters of the quadrants of the Integral map;

2. Able to identify lines (streams) and stages (waves) of development in each of the quadrants, as they pertain to themselves personally and professionally;

3. Able to use the "All-Quadrant, All-Lines" (AQAL) map as an assessment tool for work with clients and in other professional settings;

4. Able to use the AQAL perspective to inform selection of therapeutic approaches and interventions; and participants will be

5. Provided with reading materials, references and other resources that strengthen knowledge about the Integral approach to self, relationships, society, and the environment.
